Sebum is a natural oil that is made in your skin. If the levels of sebum are low in your skin, it cannot hold moisture and will look parched, feel tight when washed and in some extreme cases, show signs of chapping and cracking. The wind and very high or low temperatures can steal the natural moisture from your skin and make it feel tight. Dry skin can cause embarrassing flakes and look dull on your cheeks and near your eyes. You may also find dry skin on your knees, hands and in your midsection.

The most common cause of dry skin is the lack of sufficient moisture from sebum. In some cases, this can be due to genetic conditions, but there are also environmental causes like exposure to sun, cold, and wind. The use of some cosmetics, and chemicals, can also cause dry skin. Other reasons can be poor diet that is deficient in vitamin A and B which is likely to take away the skins moisture. Skin diseases like dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, or seborrhea are also causes of dry skin as are other conditions like diabetes and hypothyroidism and also the use of certain drugs like diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines.

You should carefully cleanse your dry skin daily, massage it lightly to stimulate the sebum production, and use quality in moisturizers and oils. When you are washing your skin with soap it will take out the natural protective oil along with the dirt, so use neutral non-acidic or alkaline products to wash your skin and abstain from using commercial soaps. After cleansing your skin you will need to treat your it lightly with moisturizing cream. The use of a good moisturizer will return lost water content to your skin. After you have taken a bath or shower, you can apply baby oil to your skin. The area that is around the eyes should be given additional moisturizer, but apply it very gently in this area.

Every morning you should treat your skin with a spray of mineral water and then apply a beauty mask for dry skin. An excellent recipe for a homemade mask is to mix together one egg, a teaspoon of honey, half a teaspoon of olive oil and a couple of drops of rose water. This makes a great mask to use on your face and body.

Eating a good balanced diet that is loaded with vitamins and minerals is essential to combatting dry skin. Your diet should include some sulfur containing foods like onions, garlic, asparagus, and eggs, as well as carrots and yellow and orange vegetables. You should refrain from alcohol, caffeine, coffee, tea, and sugary drinks. Other items to limit are french fries and junk food that is high in grease or fat. This will help to keep your skin healthy and stop it from drying out.

How can the environment in which you live affect your skin? The skin protects the body from the atmosphere, and it is exposed to several things that may harm it. Premature aging, for example, is dictated by the environmental factors which surround you. Read on to find out more about how the environment affects your skin.
Winter
Indoor environments are very dry in they winter because of the heat from the furnace, and this causes the skin to dry out. Skin becomes the driest during the winter months.
The cold outdoors combined with the heat indoors makes the skin extremely dehydrated. However, the cold causes pores to close up, making the skin less oily. With the right skin care products, such as a biological skin care balm, you can keep your skin moisturized.
Summer
Air conditioners and fans in the summer also affect the skin. They have a dehydrating effect on the skin, because they speed up the evaporation process from the surface of the body. Unless one drinks plenty of water to make up for the dehydration, inelasticity of the skin will be the result.
Once outside, there is the heat to consider, which opens up the pores on the skin. This in turn allows for increased oil secretion and thus oily skin. As a consequence, the stale oil on the skin combined with environmental dust and other pollutants can lead to blocked pores and result in black heads and pimples.
Sun
We have all heard about the suns harmful effect on the skin. Regardless of the season, it still reaches the skin and cause problems, such as sunburns and sunspots. This is one of the biggest environmental issues the skin has to deal with. UV rays can cause skin cancer to develop, as moles and freckles appear more often and darker. It is wise to use a facial moisturizer that has SPF protection in it already, so that you won’t have to remember sunscreen everyday. The sun also dehydrates your skin, and prolonged sun bathing can lead to leathery textured skin. Therefore a hat when you are outside can really be useful.
Air Pollution
The biggest air pollutant that most city folks face today is vehicle emissions. Cars emit a wide variety of pollutants, mainly carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide. Factories are also culprits causing bad air that can upset the skin. Sulphur dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels produces smog, and factories are major contributors.
The contaminants in the air around us interfere with the skin’s normal pH. It can cause it to become acid or alkaline, depending on the type of pollutant the skin is exposed to. This is followed by an abnormal release in oils from the skin, which is actually our skin’s natural defense. The body’s natural detoxification system is impaired, leading to acne. Pollutants in the air also encourage free radicals, which speed up aging.

In case you haven’t heard, you are what you eat. Perhaps you won’t turn into a chocolate chip cookie, but there are certain foods that can increase or decrease your melanin production.

Melanin activates the pigmentation of your skin, making in darker when more melanin is being produced by the body. So, depending on the look you are hoping to achieve, eating certain foods can increase the melanin, while avoiding these foods will stagnate it.

Light coloured foods will give you whiter skin. Foods such as eggs and milk will dilute the melanin and keep your skin lighter coloured. On the other hand, the same theory applies to dark coloured foods. Deep, dark foods like coffee, tea, and black sesame can make your skin appear darker.

Vegetables and fruits contain many minerals and nutrients such as zinc, iron and copper. Lemons and cucumbers are excellent examples of foods rich in these minerals which aid in the formation of melanin. Strawberries, on the other hand can reduce melanin, keeping your skin lighter.

One element that is related to common minerals such as iron, copper and zinc, is tyrosinase. Research has shown that ingesting foods rich in tyrosinase has a proven ability to deepen and darken the colour of a person’s skin. The foods which contain this element include the liver from animals, such as beef liver. You can also find this nutrient in walnut seeds, black sesames or even certain beans.

While eating certain foods may impact the natural tone and colour of your skin, it’s important to remember to keep balance in your diet. Eating too much of any specific food could cause digestion problems, not to mention deprive your body of the balanced nutrition it needs. If you’re hoping to gradually change your appearance, you’re better off to add a few pigment enhancing foods to your daily diet.

Beauty treatment is important at every stage of life for men and women both. Look good and feel good is not only a phrase now. It is a part of everyones life style. Beauty treatment involves mainly skin and hair care. At different ages people suffer from different problem with their skin and hair. Common problems of the skin are acne, pimples, dry and patchy skin, sunburn, pigmentation, and above all, early aging of the skin.

Normally acne and pimples are visible at young age. It appears mainly on the oily skin. If the Sebaceous gland of the skin secrets excess sebum, the skin looks oily. Because of a variety of reasons – e.g. pollution, dirt, sweat, and wrong cosmetics etc. – sometimes the pores gets blocked and the secretion of sebum gets interrupted and creates pimples. Apart from that hormonal imbalance, the wrong diet, and stress are also responsible for acne. It is important to treat acne at early stage; else it leaves marks on the face. There are various acne treatments available in every skin clinic which can be fruitful and effective.

Sunburn and pigmentation has almost similar treatment. In fact sunburn is one of the reasons of pigmentation on skin. Other than that hormonal imbalance, the wrong diet, and a chemical reaction (e.g. hair color, medicines etc) also cause pigmentation. Using a sunscreen daily during daytime is essential to prevent sunburn and pigmentation, as well as keeping the skin genuinely healthy.

Anti-aging skincare is an essential part of everyones life and it is no longer limited to dermatological treatment which involves costly and dangerous cosmetic surgeries. There are lots of skincare products available in the market which actually help premature aging of the skin and give a younger look.

The basic anti-aging procedure is using a sunscreen daily at daytime, a proper moisturizer to hydrate the skin, and an anti-wrinkle cream with under-eye serum at night-time before going to bed. This procedure may prevent the signs of aging. But if the signs of aging are already visible on the skin, then one has to buy a skin tightening mask with other anti aging products which reduce the fine lines on the skin and minimize undesirable skin conditions.

Hair care is also equally important. Normally hair loss and dandruff are common problems for everyone. The basic solution can be using proper shampoo on alternate days to keep the scalp clean and healthy, and to avoid using exceedingly harsh treatments on the hair.

Our skin is always exposed to heat, cold and other environmental changes, so it is very important to take care of it. In this article we have included various natural skin tonics for you that are homemade but are very useful to nourish your skin.

Skin tonics have two effects on your skin after cleansing.

They remove the last trace of cleansing milk or cream.
They help to restore the skins natural proactive mantle.

However oily your skin is, I would not recommend you to use skin tonic containing alcohol (often called astringent). I find these strips away the skins natural protective barrier and with prolonged use can sensitize the skin or cause irritation.

There are lots of commercially available skin tonics but below I have given some ideas for homemade skin tonics using beneficial aromatherapy oils. By the way rose water and orange flower water can be bought at most good chemists.

As with the cleansers the ratio is two drops of aromatherapy oil to fl oz (100 ml) of toner, either used singly or in combination.

For normal skin – Add lavender, rose or neroli to rosewater or orange flower water.

For oily skin – Add lemon, lavender, bergamot, juniper or ylang-ylang to which hazel.

For acne/ pimples – Add rose, ylang-ylang, geranium or camomile to rosewater.

For hyper-sensitive skin – Add camomile, neroli, jasmine or rose to orange flower water.

As with cleansers all skin toners are kindest when applied to your skin with damp cotton wool. Gently wipe all over the face and neck, paying careful attention to the creases around your chin. If necessary, repeat once more.

Have a gorgeous and glowing skin naturally with homemade skin tonics!

There are plenty of celebrities who have had cosmetic surgery. Maybe some of your favorite personalities may have gone under the knife too. If they wont admit it through the words that come out of their mouth, the difference in their appearance tells everything. Some of the most famous people in the world of politics, movies or even sports have their own stories and reasons why they decided to have a cosmetic surgery. Here are some of the lists of the celebrities who considered having a cosmetic surgery:

Madonna the queen of pop who was very popular in 1980s for her music, concerts, and movies had several reports of undergoing a cosmetic surgery. A face lift, nose job, chin fix, jaw reduction, and filling injections are few surgical procedures she has had. Her nose also trimmed down a few notches compared before. Her figure remains as natural looking as it always has. Her side initially tried to deny the procedures but the results were hard to cover up.

Marilyn Monroe is an oldie and she has been gone for quite sometime, but she had rhinoplasty surgery sometime between being a brunette and becoming a blonde. She was considered one of the most beautiful women who ever walked the earth. Whats relieving is she may not have achieved the title without some nose and chin work.

Michael Jackson the King of Pop, had a few cheek implants, some jaw redesigning, a lot of nose jobs and some permanent skin lightening techniques. He began investing in nose job during his teen years. He shocked the world when he underwent skin lightening cosmetic surgery for his whole body.

Pamela Anderson is quite obvious with the breast implants and it has been rumored that she has had some work done on her face as well.

Hillary Clinton the wife of former President Bill Clinton has allegedly undergone several cosmetic surgeries. The politician has had eyelid surgery, laser skin resurfacing, filling injections, and neck lifts based on unconfirmed results. Repots also say that Clinton spent a huge sum of money investing in cosmetic procedures to enhance her appearance.

Nicole Kidman nose changed completely. Her surgery is more on the rumor side of things, but she has changed in the past fifteen years or so. She has gotten older, but she is still beautiful.

Victoria Beckham the wife of English soccer icon is still gorgeous although she has had some work done. She reportedly underwent breast implants and lip augmentation. It is quite obvious that she is different from what she used to be.

There are more celebrities who underwent plastic surgeries. The most beautiful faces in the world during the past and present may not be as natural as you think. It seems that more celebrities take the risk just to look better than the rest.

Try going to the gym and doing 1 set of 50 reps for each exercise you do. Change things up at the gym now and then so your body is always wondering. This way, you’ll sweat more.

2. Get vitamin D. One of the most important vitams for our bodies, unforunately, most of us are deficient.

3. Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Sleeping regenerates your body. Want proof? Sleep 5-6 hours a night for a week. You’ll notice your skin, eyes and especially your face won’t look the same.

If you continue not getting enough sleep, wrinkles will show up first on your face and you’ll age quickly.

Drink water regularly throughout the day. You’ll see a noticable appearance in your look. Your skin will never look dry or lackluster. Water also helps for having soft skin and more toned muscles.
